Alchemy of a Blackbird, Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland

Inspired by Claire McMillan’s novel of the same name, Alchemy of a Blackbird is a major, theme-based group exhibition that brings together newly commissioned, recent and historical works by a multigenerational cohort of international artists working across drawing, sculpture, painting, installation, and interdisciplinary media. Co-curated by McMillan and DJ Hellerman, moCa’s Deputy Director and Senior Curator, the exhibition convenes more than 15 artists including Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Kim Krans, Julie Schenkelberg, Jesse Bransford, and Jackie Tileston, placing their work in dialogue with historical figures Remedios Varo, Leonora Carrington, and Pamela Colman Smith.
